YehudaTehina 11-Ounce (Pack of 12)

I always keep a well stocked pantry of staples and tahini is a must have on that list. When I ran out recently, I looked for a can of Joyva in the store but there was none to be found. There was, however, a can of Yehuda "Tehina" so I took a chance and bought it. As the previous reviewer states- this is not sesame paste. I agree with him there but at that point we part company. This is rather someone's misdirected attempt to share their tahini sauce recipe. It is flavorless, suspiciously fluffy (which is explained by the ingredient list- STARCH- and in case you are fearful of the fat I guess- it has been cut for you by the addition of chickpeas (which DON'T belong in tahini sauce). Now I don't mind convenience foods- I just don't use them in general, and not for nothing-if I pick something up labelled "chicken" I don't expect to open the package and find breaded nuggets. If the can had been labelled "Tahina SAUCE" I would have passed it by- but it merely says TEHINA. Yehuda needs to get the label right. For the price I can make a bucket of the real thing that actually tastes GOOD.

Yehuda Tehina as printed on container is a very flavorful prepared dip and sauce that I have frequently seen put on falafel sandwiches or as a dip. It tastes great at both room temperature and chilled which suprised me since I do not care for thicker hummus at room temp. By the way, if you are looking for tahini as in pure ground sesame seeds as an ingredient in a recipe this is not what you want as this is is a prepared product with tahini as the second ingredient.
