Be careful buying this product....You may not be getting what you paid for.
We love sardines - skinless, boneless in olive oil. Having purchased quite a bit of grocery items from Amazon, we had no problem ordering these. And the price, particularly through the subscription service was terrific. So far so good.
Then the problems began, 2 total, one at a time, like a slow-motion film, unfolding. Here goes:
1) The 10 cans arrived, poorly packaged, and about 3 cans were badly dented. Rather than complain, we decided to open these first. They tasted, uh, extremely oily, the olive oil notwithstanding. We're rather fond of olive oil, but this.....ugh! Then we saw the labels: Reese Skinless & Boneless Filets Of Mackerel Sardines. I don't know what mackerel sardines are, but they tasted disgusting with that harsh, bluefish-like powerful oily flavor. Not what we ordered. Should have complained, but didn't for some reason. We donated them to a neighbor who likes bluefish, and cancelled the subscription.
Believing that was a simple human error we ordered another 10 cans, again with the subscription. Price is great, right?
2) We checked the labels - Reese Skinless and Boneless Sardines in Olive Oil - so far so good. Opened it up - full skins, all the bones. Definitely not skinless & boneless, and I'm not even going to taste to see if the oil is olive or not. Another neighbor got the benefit of this error - somebody who has teeth as powerful as the best garbage disposal, and has no problem eating fish scales let alone a little old sardine with skin. Plus he has no taste buds as he pours Tabasco sauce by the cupfuls over everything - blech! But that's a different story.
Be careful with this one - 2 strikes and I'm out. I'll get mine in the grocery store and pay a little more. But we continue to purchase many grocery products through Amazon at great prices, with great results.

Great Sardines
These sardines are the best I've found at a reasonable price. The taste is better due to removal of skin and bones, and the olive oil they are packed in also adds flavor. I eat them prinicipally as an ingredient in a morning mixture of grits, tomatoes, sliced black olives and sardines. This is healthy, filling and tasty. They also make a good, healthy snack just with crackers and hot sauce. 2008-07-12

Healthy, Tasty, Protein
Very tasty, small sardines, (much healthier than tuna, due to less mercury content.) Excellent, quick protein source. 2008-05-08

What's in the can?
The cans contain boneless skinless sardines or boneless skinless mackerel fillets? The heading says both. The reviewers talk only about sardines. Please advise. I'd like to order a case of sardines. 2008-05-06

excellent product
Great taste and texture, not to salty. Eat by themselves or on crackers, or with eggs or pasta etc. Great snack or meal. Nothing negative to say about this product. 2008-04-09
