My son-in-law, who is a superb cook, went back to the kitchen and cooked burgers in the oven. When he served them, I kept looking out to see if the grill on the porch had been uncovered. I couldn't understand how he had that authentic Texas smoky taste in the oven. I wondered how he flavored the burgers to get that taste of tomatoes, mustard, pepper, and vineagar just right. There was a hint of molasses too. The burgers were big, beautiful, and juicy.
